director of the f.b.i. is with us. john, what have you been learning? >> well, they're looking very hard at that piece of closed circuit television security camera video. they've gotten a individual who they're interested in because he's carrying two backpacks. now you know how early it is and how information will shift and change and that's an important caveat but when you have two devices possibly contained in backpacks and you have an image of somebody moving before that carrying two backpacks that could be someone who's got his backpack and one he's carrying for another runner or that could be a suspect. so what they're doing now between the f.b.i. and boston police department is they're looking at his direction of travel. the shot that they have of him is not really identifiable. it's from behind. so they're scoping out the network of cctv cameras trying to figure out from the direction he's coming from what other cameras would he have passd? can they identify the same individual this time from the front wand a face. and then based on that look and whatever other cameras they can se

taken to court. but the f.b.i. shot down claims that anyone was in custody, and it issued a statement that said, in part: the bureau also put off an afternoon briefing, citing a bomb scare that forced everybody out of the courthouse. earlier, the f.b.i. released photos of remnants of the bombs made out of pressure cookers and the black nylon bags that concealed them. one of the pressure cooker lids was catapulted to a nearby rooftop. and investigators kept sifting the crime scene for more clues today. all three people killed in the bombings have now been identified-- eight-year old martin richard, 29-year-old krystle campbell and lu lingzi, a chinese graduate student at boston university. last night, neighbors and friends of martin richard and his family held a candlelight vigil near a baseball diamond and field where he used to play. >> everybody knows them, everybody loves them. it's just unthinkable, you know, anybody's little boy, was our little boy. >> reporter: boston common was the site of another vigil last night. several hundred turned out to sing and pay tribute to those k

, surveillance photo, the f.b.i., the police can circulate that there among all police agencies, perhaps among spectators how much they want to tip their hand i don't know and that could lead them somewhere. so these are big developments. they're now willing to say outside they believe these were bombs. number two, they think they were probably secreted in some kind of trash can and that makes sense because after the explosions we heard about the warning to stay away from trash cans and very importantly the third device which we know about, an unexploded device we are told has been recover intact. that was in a trash resentable near the finish line. so these are preliminary bits of evidence, scott, but in the end it might help point us in the right direction. >> pelley: bob, thank you very much. so that would be our first law enforcement confirmation that explosive devices were behind these explosions in boston and apparently this attack was meant to be even graver than it has been. two bombs, apparently have exploded but at least one other has been discovered by police and, in fact, we're --

or international. the attorney general has also been in direct contact with the f.b.i. director who has spoken with president obama this afternoon. fox news told f.b.i. agents are focused now on the methodical work of pulling clues from the marathon route what, is now a crime season the residue from the explosions to determine the type of explosive, the origin of the explosives, and whether the devices were made by the same person. in other words, they carry the bomb maker's signature. also the type of detonator, as well as whether they contain any shrapnel. that will be a critical clue. they're also pulling the surveillance camera video. based on conversations with sources this afternoon, initially what they reported to us is that there was no threat information or chatter in advance of what happened at the marathon today or that it was a target. >> thank you. as we look live at the white house briefing room. again, the president ready to speak in a few minutes. we may get more information there. you just saw some video there. that's from the boston globe. i want to toss back to that video an

from the blast sites. f.b.i. says was a pressure cooker that held one of the bombs that exploded during the boston marathon. of a pressure cooker on the 2. this is shredded black backpack that the f.b.i. says contained one of the believed to be in it. come appeared to be a battery one of these online. this and liftchargeable. it is advertised as having a "very long" fox's lot in remote control cars. the device were found and measured. officials said the pressure cookers were filled and black powder. 5. this looks like wires. the explosive devices were triggered by "kitchen-type" the recovered parts include part of a circuit board, which might have been used to detonate a device. a law enforcement official said monday's bombs were probably detonated by timers. 6. another piece of a pressure cooker was found at a blast site. forensic and components of the homemade devices were container, could help manufacturer and possibly buyer. wethis is a different view of the bombing. >> pam:these pictures were taken from a nearby office building and show the chaos coming up at 5:30. we have new imag
